Some things in life take time, a long time …a very long time. This particular journey Vimala and I were about to undertake was born in my head in 1969 when I was 9 years old. I watched the 1962 film Hatari (means danger in Swahili) with breathless fascination.

The Rhino chase in the opening scene with the Rhino turning back to attack the hunters is an image that was going to linger in my head for a long time.

I had to visit the wild-life of Africa some day. Be there in an open top safari jeep to witness real time the Imagery of Serengeti, Masai Mara, The Great Migration, The Kilimanjaro, Ngnorongoro crater, The savannah, The Acacia trees, the Kopjes, the Big Five …

The whole imagery in the head had to be experienced through my own eyes and captured through my camera to be sipped offline for a long time to come.

What’s a better way to enjoy a safari than with buddies…. The vision became a plan once good buddy Bala and his high energy organiser wife Chitra signed on. A few more friends were quick to join and who knew they would stay on to be friends for life.

And you need a good holiday curator when you do a multi country safari. Someone who knows the terrain and the culture. Safari is not for the uninitiated

The die was cast, the dates and destinations set and what’s a better way to celebrate that than with a breakfast in New Krishna Bhavan, Bangalore complete with the filter coffee…. Chitra was the chosen program manager …
