Many asked me why I call this site the learning Sherpa. Sherpas are an ethnic group living in the mountainous regions of Nepal and Himalayas. Over years, they developed a genetic factors making their bodies well suited to high altitude where oxygen levels are low. They help the Everest climbers first by laying the ropes and ladders at the start of each climbing seasons, guiding them during the climb and then by carrying their supplies. In summary, they enable the Everest aspirants summit the Everest and return to the base camp alive.
I believe that the role of a leader or a parent is similar. To ensure that the people he / she is responsible are enabled to succeed and live to their full potential : exactly the way a Sherpa enables an Everest climber succeed and stay safe. A modern leader enables his / her team’s success and helps them live to their full potential by coaching them and helping them learn and be a life long learner. I spent my personal and professional years with that as a guiding beacon - aspiring to be the best Learning Sherpa for my family and my teams. As simple as that.
